Welcome to The Concussion Project.

Welcome to The Concussion Project.

Our mission here at The Concussion Project is to provide science-based information on the role of specific nutrients that can help support healing after a concussion.  Concussions are complex, multi-faceted injuries.  Symptoms may manifest subtly as fatigue, moodiness and headaches or more overtly as vertigo and memory loss.  The amount of damage caused by a concussion depends on a multitude of factors including  force of the impact, nutritional status, neck strength and the state of your immune system.  The initial impact causes damage to brain tissues - this is the primary injury.  The inflammatory cascade that follows commonly leads to even more extensive damage to brain cells - this is called the secondary injury.  To simplify, the healing process can be broken down into 3 distinct phases.

  1. Tissue Repair.  Repairing and rebuilding brain cells.

  2. Controlling Inflammation.  Most lingering concussion symptoms are due to residual inflammation.

  3. Energy Production.  It takes a tremendous amount of energy at the cellular level to repair brain cells.

We can effectively support each of these 3 phases of healing with targeted supplementation.

  1.  Tissue Repair.  Omega 3 fatty acids are the building blocks of brain cells called neurons.  Magnesium L-threonate helps protect brain cells from the damaging effects of inflammation.

  2. Controlling Inflammation.  Omega 3 fatty acids and Nrf2 activators play a key role in regulating inflammation.

  3. Energy Production.  Mitochondrial support enhances energy production at a cellular level.

It is widely known that nutrition plays a role in how well we function and heal.  Your brain is no exception.  Visit our resources section and our store to learn more.
